Verbena, 2 weather systems to bring cloudy skies, rains over Luzon

Severe Tropical Storm "Verbena" [International name: Koto] is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but will continue to affect the western section of Southern Luzon while the shear line will affect the eastern section of Northern Luzon as the effects of the Northeast Monsoon (amihan) will be felt over the rest of Northern Luzon on Thursday, PAGASA reported.

As of 3 a.m., Severe Tropical Storm Koto is outside PAR or 230 kilometers north of Pag-ASA Island, Kalayaan, Palawan packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 135 km/h and moving west northwestward at the speed of 20 km/h.

Weather conditions

Kalayaan Islands will have rains with gusty winds brought about by Verbena with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy rains with at times intense rains. There will be minimal to minor threat to life and property due to strong winds.

The rest of Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Verbena with flash floods or landslides possibly occurring due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Mainland Cagayan, and Isabela will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line with the possibility that flash floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy rains.

Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley will have cloudy skies with rains due to the northeast monsoon with flash floods or landslides possibly occurring due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Aurora and Quezon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies as flash floods or landslides may occur due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized Thunderstorms and flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast for northern Luzon is moderate to strong moving northeastward while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The western section of Southern Luzon will experience moderate to strong wind speed moving in the southwest to southeast direction while coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

The rest of Luzon will experience moderate wind speed moving in the southeast to east direction with moderate coastal waters.

Visayas and Mindanao will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the southeast to east direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.
