Pomeranian Placed in Laundry Basket To ‘Protect’ Senior Sibling—It Fails

A video showing the lengths one dog owner has gone to give their senior pup a break from a tiny but determined Pomeranian has gone viral on TikTok.

Racking up over 3.8 million views, the March 3 clip, shared to @itsteddyburr, begins with an upside‑down laundry basket placed on the floor. Moments later, the reason becomes clear as Teddy, a 2‑pound Pomeranian, is underneath it.

The caption reads: “this is teddies [little] protection hamper for when he annoys our senior dog and gets too close for comfort. which is often.”

While the pup cannot be seen, the laundry basket appears to be chasing a Chihuahua around the kitchen island, showing the plan didn’t quite work.

While the moment amused viewers, it also highlights a familiar challenge for many dog owners—managing the dynamic when a younger, energetic pup shares a home with an older one.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) says a common mistake owners make is assuming that a brief, calm introduction means the dogs will continue to coexist peacefully without guidance.

Older canines may show subtle signs of discomfort or stress that go unnoticed. When those signals are ignored, tension can build and result in a snap or negative interaction that feels sudden to owners but has often been developing over time.

The AKC adds that interactions between older canines and puppies should always be closely supervised. While many owners hope their new puppy and older dog will bond quickly, that process often takes time. Even when canines appear to be getting along, accidents can happen, and unsupervised play can lead to stress or injury.

Proper introductions are an important first step, but ongoing supervision is essential to helping both dogs develop a healthy relationship.

The AKC notes that older canines still need downtime, even if they generally enjoy the puppy’s company. Owners are encouraged to step in before either dog becomes frustrated or overstimulated. Interrupting play sessions, redirecting the puppy’s energy, or providing separate rest periods can help prevent conflict and reduce stress for both canines.

TikTok Reacts

So far, the post has over 555,000 likes and more than 5,600 comments.

“So now the senior dog is being terrorized by a really fast laundry basket,” said one user.

“I had to go check who Teddy was! And was exactly how I imagined him to be,” posted another user, pointing out that you can’t actually see the dark-brown fluffy dog in the clip.

“I love how he gets put in jail for being a menace but becomes more of a menace in his [little] jail,” a third added.

For many viewers, the video was a lighthearted reminder that even the most creative solutions can be no match for a determined little dog.
