Sloclap, the independent game developer of Sifu, has announced its next video game. Rematch is a five-a-side football game taking cues from multiplayer sports titles like Rocket League, where each player on the field is controlled by gamers online.
Unlike EA's FC games, Rematch is played from a third-person perspective, with a minimalist art style similar to Sifu. The game keeps the focus on action more than simulation, meaning there are no rules like offsides or AI-controller behavior.
Channeling a similar style to FIFA Street, Rematch aims to be an arcade-like experience, where players can show off their ball-handling skills with style rather than precision. The game was announced at The Game Awards 2024.
The DNA of past Sloclap games presents itself in its impressive gameplay trailer, where time-sensitive inputs will determine how well you progress in it. However, unlike most multiplayer games these days, Rematch will not be free to play.
What it will share with other multiplayer games like Marvel Rivals or Fortnite is a seasonal model for content drops. New game modes and cosmetics will be released frequently, but details about the same are yet to be revealed.
Set in a futuristic world, the game takes place in a world that has embraced the sport as its ultimate leisure activity. Being set in a fictional timeline, it'll be interesting to see how, or even if, it will rope in real-world football stars for collaboration.
Rematch is in development for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
