Google has finally released the source code for Android 15 on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
While that’s big news for developers, Pixel users will have to wait a bit longer for the stable update.
Originally slated for September, the Android 15 update for Pixel devices is now looking more like an October release. Historically, Google had also pushed a Pixel update coinciding the source code release to AOSP.
In the meantime, Google has been keeping Pixel owners busy with the September 2024 security patch, which includes fixes for a security vulnerability and improved Wi-Fi performance for the Pixel 9 series.
Other smartphone manufacturers, like Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, have already gotten their hands on pre-release versions of Android 15.
This has given them a head start in developing their own custom skins based on the new operating system. Samsung, for instance, is gearing up to unveil its One UI 7 skin in early October.
