22/04/2026 18:01:00

The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Bangkok invite everyone to discover how a simple espresso became a global cultural icon during "Passione Italiana: L'Arte Dell'Espresso", which will take place at Nextopia, 5th floor of Siam Paragon, Rama I Road, from Friday to May 12.

Held as part of the "Sip Of Italy" project, the exhibition features 40 iconic creations by leading international designers -- from the Oggetto Banale by Alessandro Mendini to the Turbo Moka by Matteo Frontini -- alongside historic professional machines from the coffee machine museum Mumac, including rare models from the 1920s and legendary pieces from the 1950s. The exhibition comes with a string of activities.

The opening ceremony takes place today at 4pm, followed by a lecture on "Italian Coffee: Curiosities, Traditions And Contemporary Culture With Massimiliano Marchesi" at 6pm. The session will present curiosities about Italian coffee habits, the evolution of espresso culture and the social role of coffee bars in Italian daily life.

There will be three more lectures. "Coffee Beyond The Cup: Culinary Identity & Product Development With Tomaso Mannu" explores the many ways coffee can be incorporated into dishes, sauces, ferments and condiments, tomorrow at 6pm.

"Circular Coffee: Sustainable And By-Product Innovation With Tomaso Mannu" demonstrates how circular thinking can generate both environmental and economic value on Saturday at 11.45am while "Coffee As A Cultural Bridge: Thailand And Italy With Laudato Si Social Enterprise" offers thoughtful insights into coffee as a tool for intercultural dialogue and as a key element in both environmental and social sustainability on April 27 at 6pm.

On April 30, enjoy "Jazz & Coffee", a performance held to mark International Jazz Day by Bruno Brugnano's Bangkok New Trio. It offers audiences a synaesthetic experience by weaving an elegant dialogue between sound and the sensory world of coffee.
