The fully redesigned cross-country SUV brings together a new 2.4-liter diesel powertrain, S-AWC, Super Select 4WD-II, premium three-row comfort, and advanced driver assistance.
Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled the fully redesigned All-New Pajero, positioning the cross-country SUV as its new-generation flagship and a model intended to define the next chapter of the Mitsubishi brand.
The new Pajero will first launch in Thailand, followed by Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027 onward, Mitsubishi plans to introduce the model in approximately 100 countries worldwide, including markets across ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East. Philippine timing has not yet been announced.
First introduced in 1982, the Pajero built its reputation around combining off-road capability and durability with passenger-car-like comfort. Across four generations, total production exceeded 3.29 million units, with the model sold in more than 170 countries and regions.
For this new generation, Mitsubishi has evolved that original formula around three themes: Confidence, Comfort, and Prestige.
A flagship design rooted in Pajero heritage
The All-New Pajero adopts a new “Grand Charisma” design concept, combining upright proportions and strong horizontal lines with more sculpted surfaces and prominent fenders.
Several visual references to past Pajero generations remain. The C-pillar draws inspiration from the roll bar of the first-generation model, while a hexagonal rear motif reinterprets the rear-mounted spare tire seen on earlier versions. Two grille designs will be offered: a horizontal-bar treatment inspired by Japanese craftsmanship and a honeycomb grille intended to emphasize strength and functionality.
The interior also carries familiar Pajero cues into a more modern cabin. A horizontally oriented dashboard incorporates a monolithic display with two 14.3-inch screens on applicable specifications, while the digital interface includes a modern interpretation of the Pajero’s traditional triple-meter cluster.
Soft-touch surfaces use stitching inspired by Kimekomi, a traditional Japanese craft, while the available Camel interior combines warmer natural tones with contrasting black elements.
2.4-liter diesel with a new 8-speed automatic
Under the hood, the All-New Pajero uses a specially developed 2.4-liter clean diesel engine with a wide-range single variable geometry turbocharger.
Maximum torque reaches 480 Nm, depending on specification, with select versions rated at 470 Nm. The engine is paired with a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode.
Mitsubishi says the powertrain was tuned to provide strong low-speed response while improving refinement and quietness across both paved and off-road driving.
The SUV retains a highly rigid ladder-frame construction, now using more high-tensile steel and structural changes intended to improve torsional and bending rigidity while reducing weight.
Its suspension consists of an independent double-wishbone front setup and a newly developed five-link rigid rear axle. Mitsubishi says “off-road comfort” was one of the key development targets, balancing wheel articulation and tire contact with ride comfort over rough surfaces and longer journeys.
S-AWC meets Super Select 4WD-II
One of the most significant technical changes is the addition of Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control, or S-AWC, alongside Super Select 4WD-II.
Super Select 4WD-II offers four drivetrain settings: 2H rear-wheel drive, 4H full-time 4WD, 4HLc with the center differential locked, and 4LLc with the center differential locked and low-range gearing.
S-AWC then integrates Active Yaw Control, Active Stability and Traction Control, and ABS to manage driving and braking forces across all four wheels according to driver inputs and road conditions.
Seven selectable drive modes are available: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.
The Pajero also uses large 18-inch brake rotors and an electric brake booster.
Built for serious terrain
The All-New Pajero measures 4,920mm long, 1,925mm wide, and 1,910mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,870mm.
On vehicles equipped with 20-inch tires, ground clearance is 230mm. The approach angle is 30.4 degrees, ramp breakover angle is 22.6 degrees, and departure angle is 25.8 degrees. Weight distribution is optimized to 52:48 front to rear.
These figures, combined with the ladder frame, long-travel suspension, and four-wheel-drive systems, reinforce Mitsubishi’s intention to keep the Pajero firmly positioned as a genuine cross-country SUV rather than move it toward a purely road-focused flagship role.
A more premium three-row cabin
Inside, the All-New Pajero uses a three-row, seven-seat layout designed to improve comfort across all seating positions.
The second row offers 150 mm of sliding adjustment and a tumble mechanism for easier third-row access. Mitsubishi says the third row is designed with enough headroom for adult passengers and includes a footwell that allows occupants to place their toes beneath the second-row seats.
Seat ventilation is available, while three-zone automatic climate control allows independent temperature settings across the cabin. Acoustic glass is used for the windshield as well as the front and rear door windows, with additional sound insulation intended to reduce wind and engine noise.
A modern take on the Pajero cockpit
The infotainment system uses a large horizontal display with drive-mode-specific graphics and 16 background themes that change according to the time of day.
The Multi-Meter display revisits the Pajero’s traditional triple-gauge concept and can show altitude, compass heading, temperature, vehicle pitch and roll angles, and Active Yaw Control status.
Wireless smartphone connectivity is also supported through the Smartphone-link Display Audio system.
Reinforcing this shift toward a more premium flagship position, the new Pajero’s upright, broad-shouldered exterior is paired with a cabin dominated by a wide digital display and a more upscale dashboard treatment.
MI-PILOT and expanded safety technology
The All-New Pajero also gains a comprehensive set of preventive safety and driver-assistance systems.
These include Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcyclist detection and junction assist; Predictive Forward Collision Warning; Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication; Front Cross Traffic Alert; and Emergency Lane Assist, which appears on the Pajero for the first time.
MI-PILOT combines Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist to help maintain following distance and lane position during highway driving.
The Pajero is equipped with eight airbags, including Mitsubishi Motors’ first SRS center airbag, designed to reduce the risk of contact between front-seat occupants during a collision.
A 3D Multi Around Monitor combines feeds from four cameras with a 3D vehicle model and processes approximately 30 frames per second. It also includes a front under-floor view that can show terrain immediately beneath and ahead of the vehicle, particularly useful during off-road driving.
Connected services and Yamaha audio
MITSUBISHI CONNECT adds remote vehicle functions through a smartphone, including climate control operation and vehicle-status checking.
An SOS call function can connect occupants to an operations center during emergencies.
Audio is handled by the Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate system, jointly developed with Yamaha Corporation. It uses 12 speakers and dual amplifiers, together with noise compensation that adjusts audio output according to vehicle speed.
Global rollout begins in Thailand
Mitsubishi says the All-New Pajero will initially launch in Thailand before expanding to Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. Broader global availability is planned from fiscal 2027, including ASEAN markets.
Specifications and equipment may vary by market and trim level, and Mitsubishi has not yet provided Philippine pricing, specifications, or a local launch schedule.
