The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) on Friday warned of possible floods and landslides in 8,164 barangays in different regions due to the threat of the incoming potential Super Typhoon Uwan.
“Base po sa latest data na nakuha po namin sa PAGASA ay nagkaroon po kami ng listahan ng maaaring maapektuhan po ng landslide at saka flood mula between November 7 up to November 10,” MGB Lands Geological Survey Division chief Dr. Karlo L. Queaño said at a press conference.
(Based on the latest data we got from PAGASA, we have a list of barangays that may be affected by landslides and floods between November 7 and November 10.)
“So base po sa aming datos, there are about 8,164 number of barangays that may be affected by rain-induced landslides and floods,” he added.

In its geohazard advisory for Uwan, the MGB warned the concerned barangays to stay alert for possible floods and landslides.
“Maging alerto sa mga pagtaas o pagbaba ng flood levels, at bantayan ang mga lugar na malapit sa mga ilog, slopes o dalisdis, at drainage canals,” the MGB said.
(Be alert to rising or falling flood levels, and monitor areas near rivers, slopes, and drainage canals.)
“I-report ang kung anumang senyales ng paggalaw ng lupa, pagtaas ng tubig, o maputik na tubig. Ipaalam sa mga barangay officials kung makapansin ng mga crack o bitak sa mga pader o nakatagilid na mga sahig at poste sa mga sloping areas,” it added.
(Report any signs of land movement, rising water, or muddy water. Inform barangay officials if you notice cracks or fissures in walls or tilted floors and posts in sloping areas.)
Queaño warned the residents of Typhoon Tino-hit areas of these hazards considering that their places might be oversaturated due to the rains in the previous days.
“Ito po ay Ang Maasin, Southern Leyte; Tayabas, Alabat, and Infanta, Quezon; Juban, Sorsogon; Mactan, Cebu; Rojas City, Capiz; Puerto Princesa and Cuyo in Palawan; as well as that of Surigao City in Surigao del Norte,” he said.

“Ang ating mga kababayan ay hindi dapat basta-basta lumilipat o bumabalik sa kanilang tinitirhan, lalo na sa mga nag-evacuate po, dahil hanggat meron tayong oversaturation ng mga ground, there's still a possibility na magkaroon ng landslides sa kanilang lugar,” he added.
