Marikina River at second alarm as water level went down

Local authorities lowered the alert level at Marikina River on Tuesday morning, from 3rd alarm to 2nd alarm as the water level went down.

At 5:23 a.m., the water level went down to 17.7 meters, then at 6 a.m., the water level was at 17.5 meters, according to the Marikina Public Information Office.

Authorities raised the third alarm on Monday evening as the water reached 18 meters.

Under the city's alert system, the first alarm is raised when the water has reached 15 meters above sea level. This means residents should "prepare".

The second alarm is sounded when the water reaches 16 meters, and this means residents should "evacuate".

Meanwhile, the third alarm is hoisted when the water reaches 18 meters, and this calls for "forced evacuation."

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will bring continue to bring cloudy skies and rains over parts of the country on Tuesday, PAGASA said.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Occidental Mindoro will have monsoon rains, with the possibility that floods or landslides will occur due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains. —KG, GMA Integrated News
