Josh Morgerman and James Reynolds, renowned storm chasers, are currently in the Philippines to monitor Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung Wong).
Josh arrived in Manila on Friday after coming from Jamaica, where he covered Hurricane Melissa. He is now in Baler, Aurora, to monitor Super Typhoon Uwan.
“This one could be a real beast,” he said.
Meanwhile, James of Earth Uncut TV is also in Baler, closely monitoring conditions in the area and providing updates on his Facebook page.
“Expecting landfall somewhere near Baler tonight around 8 pm, but given the large size of the storm, the exact landfall location and time isn’t hugely important since dangerous conditions will extend well ahead and far from the center,” he wrote.
Josh is an American storm chaser known for documenting some of the world’s most powerful tropical cyclones.
On the other hand, James is a British storm chaser documenting extreme natural events across Asia and beyond.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin on Saturday, weather bureau PAGASA said Uwan has intensified and became a super typhoon.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 was raised over Polillo Islands; the northern portion of Camarines Norte (Daet, Talisay, Paracale, Vinzons, Jose Panganiban, Mercedes, Basud); the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Caramoan, Garchitorena, Tinambac, Lagonoy); and Catanduanes.
TCWS Nos. 4, 3, 2, and 1 were also raised in several areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Due to severe weather conditions expected, several malls in the country have offered free overnight parking and shelter. —Hermes Joy Tunac/KG, GMA Integrated News
