WHAT HAPPENED?
As is so often the case this season, Barcelona conceded an early goal against Villarreal as the Yellow Submarine scored on the counter in the opening four minutes of the clash. In trademark fashion, Hansi Flick's side came back from behind in the first half to take a 2-1 lead heading into half-time. It was their 17-year-old sensation Yamal who triggered the comeback with a wonderful curling shot into Luiz Junior's goal, as he emulated Arjen Robben's trademark strike from just outside the 18-yard box for the second time in four days, having scored a similar goal against Espanyol on Thursday.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Yamal is currently considered one of the favourites to win the Ballon d'Or this year, alongside his teammate Raphinha and Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembele. The La Masia product has been a pivotal part of Barcelona's domestic treble as he has brought up 42 goal contributions in 53 appearances this season, with 17 goals and 25 assists in all competitions.
DID YOU KNOW?
As per Sofascore, Yamal also brought up yet another record as his first completed dribble of the game against Villarreal was his 150th completed dribble this season. The last time a player brought up the feat was Allan Saint-Maximin, who also hit the mark in the Premier League in 2021/22 when playing for Newcastle United.
WHAT NEXT FOR YAMAL?

With just one more game until the end of the season for Barcelona, Yamal will have time to relax over the summer as the Catalan side have not qualified for the Club World Cup. The teenager has played 8634 minutes since the start of the 2023/24 season with club and country, equivalent to over 95 matches.
