WHAT HAPPENED?

In short, Amorim has been warned that things have to get better in 2025-26. Berrada summed up the most recent campaign as being short of the "standards" expected at Old Trafford and has set a "clear expectation" moving forward.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

THE BIGGER PICTURE

United's 15th-place finish was their worst by some distance in the Premier League era, breaking the previous low bar of eighth, and worst overall since relegation from the top flight in 1973-74. There was a chance to lessen the misery in the Europa League final by potentially still winning a trophy and securing Champions league qualification, but they lost a drab game against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.

WHAT OMAR BERRADA SAID

In comments published as part of the club's latest financial results statement, Berrada said: "We were proud to reach the final of the UEFA Europa League but, ultimately, we were disappointed to finish as runner-up in Bilbao. We had a difficult season in the Premier League, which we all know fell below our standards and we have a clear expectation of improvement next season."

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

WHAT NEXT FOR MAN UTD?

Amorim has not shied away from quite how poor United have been since he assumed control in November, at one point labelling it the worst team in the cub's entire 145-year history. But he appears to crucially retain the support of the hierarchy above him and is now set for his first opportunity to put his own stamp on things. United have proactively recruited Matheus Cunha and are chasing Bryan Mbeumo to revolutionise the attacking makeup of the squad. But further recruitment to shape the group more towards Amorim's specific style will likely require substantial sales - Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are the three highest-profile unwanted players available.
