A new garbage collector will start operating in Cagayan de Oro today, September 26, following the expiration of the previous collector, Tencil Environmental Management’s contract on August 24.

The city government has initiated measures to mitigate the impact on waste management.

The new collector, Standard Systems Water and Wastewater Technologies Inc., will begin full operations in the city. The contract between the city government and Standard Systems was signed on Thursday.

Garbage collection will start in barangays scheduled for Fridays, including Kauswagan, Bayabas, Tablon, Carmen, Puntod, Macabalan, Macasandig, Cugman, and Balubal.

The usual garbage collection schedule will be followed, with garbage collected twice a week from Monday to Saturday.

The City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office will oversee the new garbage collection system.

Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy expressed his hopes for the new partnership, emphasizing that a clean environment is always a top priority for the city.

Mayor Uy is confident that the new garbage collector will make a significant difference.

“The health and well-being of our citizens depend on a clean and green environment. I urge everyone to cooperate with our new garbage collection system,” he said.

He also pointed out the importance of community participation, saying, “Let’s all do our part in keeping Cagayan de Oro clean and beautiful by following assigned garbage collection days.”

Additionally, Mayor Uy noted that proper waste management is crucial for public health.

“I’m hopeful that our new partnership will bring positive change to our community.”
