CAGAYAN de Oro City government has officially inaugurated a wastewater treatment facility capable of processing 300 cubic meters of landfill leachate per day, supporting its environmental compliance and waste management initiatives.

The turnover ceremony was held June 5 at the engineered sanitary landfill in Sitio Buracan, Barangay Pagalungan, as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve waste management and meet environmental standards.

Mayor Rolando Uy led the event, which included the official turnover of the facility.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau Region 10 Director Reynaldo Digamo, city department heads, engineers, and barangay officials attended the ceremony.

Uy said the project aims to effectively manage leachate produced by the landfill and prevent contamination of soil and water sources. He added that the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) will oversee operations.

The mayor emphasized that the new treatment plant supports the city’s compliance with national environmental regulations and reflects the local government’s commitment to enhancing waste management systems.

Clenro head Engr. Armen Cuenca said the facility would help the city meet DENR protocols for landfill operations and mitigate environmental risks.

The turnover ceremony coincided with World Environment Day, underscoring the importance of environmental protection.

Other city officials echoed Uy’s message, highlighting their commitment to continuous monitoring and collaboration with national agencies to ensure effective and sustainable operations.
