Cooking eggs is a finicky business. If your scramble isn't sticking, your fried eggs are breaking, or your omelettes are burning and falling apart, a nutritious morning routine can start to feel stressful.

Luckily, the Field Company is here to save the day with their new No.5 Cast Iron Chef Skillet. With a new curved-edge design and lightweight construction, it promises to be one of the most useful tools for perfecting your eggs or small-batch sautéing.

Regularly voted as some of our best non-toxic cookware picks, Field Company pans are one of the top investments you can make for your kitchen.

The New Field Company No.5 Cast Iron Chef Skillet is Shaped for Perfect Eggs

Perfect for beginners
Field Company No. 5 Cast Iron Skillet

Designed specifically to make flipping eggs, swirling sauces, and tossing sautés, this curved-edge, light-weight cast iron skillet is the ideal everyday addition to your cookware collection. With a pre-seasoned surface designed to be low-stick, it's a lifelong investment perfect for both beginners and experienced cooks.

While hardy cast iron and delicate eggs don't sound like the perfect match, the superior heat retention of the best cast-iron cookware means better results – softer scrambles, crispy edges on fried eggs, and perfectly plated folded omelettes.

The Field Company No. 5 Cast Iron Chef Skillet is designed with this in mind, with the curved edges (a first for the brand) making flipping, folding, and swirling sauces simple. It's 100% cast iron construction is also machined smooth for the perfect low-stick surface, and arrives preseasoned so you can cook right out of the box. Just remember to brush up on how to season cast iron correctly after washing it to maintain perfect results.

Unlike a lot of cast iron, Field Company pans are often on the lighter side – and the No.5 pan weighs just 2.2lbs, making it sized and balanced for one-handed cooking. The slightly raised handle makes swirling, tossing, and flicking quick and intuitive. Because of this, it is ideal for everyone from beginner cooks to expert home chefs and easier on those with wrist or grip issues than other heavier cast iron pans.

We haven't tested this exact Field Company skillet yet, but we have had our hands on their No. 8 Cast Iron Skillet, and gave it 4.5 stars on review for its incredible durability, low-stick surface, great browning, and design. The only small downside we could find during our vetting process was that you need to reseason it with quality food-grade grapeseed oil, available at Amazon, after every use.

Our expert tester and chef, Lydia Hayman, commented that 'Field Company's vintage-style American skillet is durable, low-stick, and a pleasure to cook with. The only caveat is that it requires some lengthy care and maintenance. But if you're happy to do the handwashing, drying, and seasoning after every use, it will reward you with decades of use (your grandkids will appreciate it in years to come).'

Made with the same quality cast iron, we are sure the new No.5 pan will offer much of the same. When choosing the best cookware, it is a great investment that is unlikely to let you down.
