MANILA, Philippines — English Pop singer Jessie J has publicly revealed she's been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
The 37-year-old shared the news through a candid video posted to her Instagram account on Wednesday (Manila time). Known for chart-topping hits like "Price Tag" and "Domino," disclosed that she received the diagnosis just ahead of releasing her recent single "No Secrets" in April.
"Before no secrets came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. I'm highlighting the word early. Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding on to the word early. I have been in and out of tests throughout this whole period," she said.
In the caption accompanying her post, Jessie kept her characteristic humor intact, writing, "No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called 'Living my breast life'?"
She added, "All jokes aside (you know it's one of the ways I get through hard times). This last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT... your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no... I must stop joking."
Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis, Jessie J emphasized that she remains optimistic and is prioritizing treatment.
"I just wanted to be open and share it... I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me, with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I'm an open book," she said in the video.
Acknowledging the strange timing of her diagnosis coinciding with her single releases, she added, "You can't make it up. It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job."
Jessie J said she plans to step back from the public eye after her upcoming performance at the Summertime Ball, explaining, "I'm going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I will come back with massive tits and more music."
The singer ended her video on a personal note, expressing empathy for others dealing with similar or worse diagnoses.
"It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse. That's the bit that kills me," she said.
