Eala resumes Asian swing at Japan Open

(UPDATE) FILIPINO tennis ace Alexandra ‘Alex’ Eala will continue her Asian swing at the Japan Open in Osaka set from Oct. 13 to 19.

Eala is already on the player list of the 250-tier WTA tournament where defending champ Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands will also see action.

Home bet and 4-time Grand Slam champ Naomi Osaka will also play in the tournament.

 

The tournament schedule finally gives Eala a breather after playing five straight third setters starting from the Jingshan Open to Suzhou 125 and to the Wuhan Open qualifiers.

World no. 58 Eala made a quick exit at the 1000-tier Wuhan after falling to Japanese and no. 92 Moyuka Uchijima in the first round of the qualifiers on Saturday.

The match capped Eala’s five straight third setters as she yielded to Uchijima, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6.

The Japan Open will also have world no. 9 Elise Mertens of Belgium, no. 25 Leylah Fernandez of Canada, no. 27 Linda Noskova of Czech Republic, no. 28 Cristina Bucsa of Spain, no. 37 Iva Jovic of the US, no. 41 Lois Boisson of France, no. 48 Jessica Maneiro of Spain, no. 50 Emiliana Arango of Colombia, and no. 51 Hailey Baptiste of the US.

Completing the list are world no. 42 Jaqueline Cristian of Romania, no. 43 Olga Danilovic of Serbia, no. 45 Ashlyn Krueger of the US, no. 47 Ann Li of the US no. 52 Marie Bouzkova of Czech Republic, no. 54 Katie Boulter of Great, no. 55 Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia, Britain, no. 56 Marika Sakkari of Greece, and no. 60 Alycia Parks of the US.

After the Japan Open, Eala is expected to take her act at the Guangzhou Open from Oct. 20 to 26 and at the Hong Kong Open from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2.
