Sinulid marks its 10th year as the annual culminating fashion showcase of graduating Fashion Design and Merchandising students of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, bringing together 91 student designers for a runway presentation that reflects a decade of academic training and creative development.
The event also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Fashion Design and Merchandising program. Sinulid serves as the platform where students present their debut collections, developed as part of their final academic requirements, highlighting skills in design, craftsmanship and merchandising.
This year’s edition is titled “Sinulid: Awanggan,” a term derived from the words “awan,” meaning zero, and “hanggan,” meaning limit. The archaic Tagalog word translates to “limitless” and is used as a conceptual framework for the collections, positioning fashion as a means of exploring alternate futures.
The showcase features more than 270 looks created by the graduating batch. According to the organizers, the collections examine the body as both subject and medium, with designers drawing from personal narratives to explore how the body occupies, challenges or reshapes identity, space and time.
The runway presentation is structured into three acts: “Takipsilim,” “Hating Gabi” and “Bukang Liwayway.” These segments present a range of works that span ready-to-wear, contemporary and avant-garde fashion.
The collections are described as the culmination of years of academic training that combines creative practice with business and industry-oriented strategies. The program positions the students’ work within the context of an evolving global fashion landscape.
“Sinulid: Awanggan” will be staged at the PNB Financial Center Banking Hall along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City on Saturday, January 31 at 6 p.m.
Select creations from the showcase will also be presented through a digital exhibition featuring more than 90 pieces, scheduled to premiere a day after the runway show.
