MANILA, Philippines — British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s viral “Idiot Sandwich” is heading to the Philippines, with a world-first pop-up set to open in Bonifacio Global City.

Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill Philippines on Tuesday said it will launch a limited-time outdoor pop-up adjacent to Megaworld's Uptown Mall, bringing the chef’s irreverent sandwich concept “from screen to plate for Filipino diners.”

The “Idiot Sandwich,” which began as a comedic sketch on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in 2015, has since grown into a global pop culture phenomenon. In the original segment, Ramsay famously placed slices of bread around a cook's face while calling her an “idiot sandwich.

The viral video eventually inspired its own spin off YouTube smash sandwich making series, as well as the cookbook "Idiot Sandwich: 100+ Recipes to Elevate Your Sandwich Game."

"At its core, Idiot Sandwich champions a simple philosophy: seriously good food that does not take itself too seriously, and the sandwich pop-up promises a contemporary take on dining that is quality-driven, globally inspired, and anchored in bold flavours," Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill Philippines said in a statement.

While specific opening dates and menu details have yet to be announced, organizers said the pop-up will feature “unapologetically delicious sandwiches” made with premium ingredients and “clever twists.”

The sandwich itself has already appeared on menus at Ramsay’s restaurants abroad, typically featuring components such as braised short rib, melted cheddar, confit mushrooms and spiced tomato chutney.

The Bonifacio Global City pop-up marks the first time the “Idiot Sandwich” concept will be staged as a standalone dining experience, with the Philippines chosen as its global debut.

Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill Philippines said Filipino diners can expect “big flavours, and plenty of buzz” once doors open.
