THE Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh repatriated 18 Filipinos who were recruited for illegal work in Cambodia.

The embassy said the unidentified distressed Filipinos were sent home last June 4 with the help of Cambodian law enforcement authorities.

From the processing of their exit clearances until their repatriation, the embassy said it ensured their well-being through regular food and personal care packages.

The embassy also shouldered their airfare using the Department of Foreign Affairs' Assistance to Nationals Fund.

The embassy renewed its warning against dubious job offers online and called on the public to be vigilant against "deceptive overseas job opportunities peddled on social media, which bring harmful outcomes in some cases."

It urged Filipinos wanting to work abroad to exercise "extreme caution against job offers targeting Filipinos for customer service representative and data entry specialist jobs in unregistered companies overseas."

"For their own protection, Filipino job seekers should comply with legally mandated requirements and processes of the Department of Migrant Workers, which oversees Philippine regulatory functions for safe, fair, and ethical recruitment with a view to preventing Filipinos from falling victim to illegal recruitment and human trafficking," the embassy said.
