CONTECON Manzanillo S.A. (CMSA), the Mexican unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has received two quay cranes and four hybrid rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes to support its terminal expansion at the Port of Manzanillo.

The equipment arrived on May 11, 2025. The quay cranes, at 60 metres tall, are the largest in the Americas and are capable of handling ships up to 400 meters in length with beams over 60 meters. CMSA said the new cranes will improve efficiency and allow simultaneous handling of three large vessels.

"By acquiring new port equipment and strengthening our infrastructure, we reaffirm our commitment to Mexican foreign trade and consolidate our position as one of the country's leading logistics platforms," said José Antonio Contreras, CMSA CEO.

The upgrade forms part of a broader expansion project that includes a new berth for vessels with a draft of -17 meters. Once completed, the berth will support megaships of up to 24,000 TEUs. The port currently handles around 70 percent of Mexico's imports from Asia.

Contreras added, "Thanks to our strategic investments, we increased our operational capacity leading to 14 percent growth in 2024 and moved 1.5 million TEUs."

CMSA's investment program from 2023 to 2026 is expected to exceed $300 million, aimed at improving the terminal's operations and access to key Pacific shipping routes.

In 2010, ICTSI secured a 34-year concession to develop and operate the Second Specialized Container Terminal (TEC-II) at the Port of Manzanillo through its subsidiary, CMSA. Strategically located, CMSA serves Asian trade and key markets across Mexico.
