Palcis places second in Bangkok chess tournament

Seven-year-old Noah Lucas Palcis placee second in the AISB Chess Without Borders under-9 open chess  tournament at the Australian International School in Bangkok, Thailand on March 29, 2026.

Palcis, a grade 2 student of Dominican School of Angeles City Foundation Inc. finished with five wins and one loss in six outings.

Palcis actually ended up tied for the number two spot with 3rd placer Pyae That Hpone and fourth placer Sanaya Sahu with identical scores of 5.0 points but the Filipino chess prodigy registered the highest tie-break quotient to take runner-up honors.

Archawin Koraviyotin topped the tournament with a perfect 6.0 points in this rapid chess tournament organized by Red Knight Chess Club.

Palcis defeated Ruhtaab Singh Bajwa, Nevaan Bordoloi and Porpieng Kijkamjai in the first three rounds before bowing to eventual champion Koraviyotin in the fourth round.

Palcis bounced back by beating Yuto Koshi in the fifth and Ko Takeuchi in the sixth round.

His local and international chess campaign is supported by Angeles City Mayor Carmelo 'Jon' Lazatin II, Angeles City Sports Office head Rosever Pascua, Angeles City Chess Library Training Program and coach Jose "Fer" Camaya.

 Palcis is also fresh from winning the Developmental chess tournament (8 years old and below) held on March 7 in Angeles City, Pampanga.

 He is set to compete in the Palarong Panglunsod on April 11.
