MANILA. Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting flights near Mt. Kanlaon following increased volcanic activity.

The advisory, effective from 8:20 a.m. on April 8, 2025, until 5:51 a.m. on April 9, 2025, prohibits aircraft from operating within a vertical limit ranging from the surface up to 22,000 feet in the affected area.

The NOTAM was issued as a precautionary measure due to the potential hazards posed by volcanic ash, which can severely damage aircraft engines and compromise flight safety.

Pilots and airline operators are strongly advised to avoid the vicinity of Mt. Kanlaon and to coordinate with air traffic control for alternative routes.

Mt. Kanlaon, an active stratovolcano located in Negros Island, has shown signs of unrest in recent days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has been closely monitoring the volcano, although no eruption has been confirmed as of posting time.

CAAP emphasized that the safety of passengers and crew remained its top priority and urged aviation stakeholders to adhere to the NOTAM guidelines.
