MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala sank three spots to No. 20 at the live WTA Finals Race on Tuesday.
Ranked No. 17 at last week's official race, Eala added 35 ranking points to raise her season total to 807 following her round of 64 finish at the 1000 Madrid Open.
Marta Kostyuk, Hailey Baptiste, and Anastasia Potapova overtook Eala after reaching the Madrid quarterfinals.
They were scheduled to face their respective foes on Thursday, looking to make the semifinals to add more ranking points to their totals.
Kostyuk and Baptiste each boosted themselves with 215 ranking points for a total of 930 and 843 points, respectively, for reaching the last eight in Madrid.
Kostyuk elevated from No. 22 last week to No. 15 while Baptiste rose from No. 26 to No. 17.
Potapova added 235 ranking points to bring her total to 827, the other 20 came from qualifying to the main draw.
From No. 32 last week, Potapova rose to No. 19 this time.
Elise Mertens, who defeated Eala in the Madrid round of 64, also overtook the Filipino netter in the Finals race.
Mertens elevated from No. 19 to 18 this week with 830 ranking points, gaining 65 from her Madrid round of 32 finish.
With four players overtaking her, Eala would have slipped further to No. 21 but Madison Keys dropping five notches from No. 16 last week prevented that.
Keys did not get any points this tournament week, sporting a total of 781 good for No. 21.
The official Finals race ranking, as well as the singles and doubles rankings, will be updated once the Madrid Open ends on Sunday.
