Scottie Thompson knocked down the go-ahead three-point shot as Barangay Ginebra completed its comeback with a 102-100 win over Rain or Shine on Thursday morning (Manila time) to complete the quarterfinal cast of PBA Philippine Cup at the Khalifa City Sports Stadium in Bahrain.
RJ Abarrientos led the Gin Kings by scoring 12 points in the last period even as Thompson added eight, including a split from the foul line with a second to go to seal the third straight win for Ginebra.
Ginebra moved to a tie for fifth to seventh spots with Meralco and Magnolia at 6-4.
The Gin Kings’ victory also ousted the Titan Ultra Giant Risers from playoff contention, rendering their game in the final playdate this Sunday as a no-bearing contest.
The win also kept Ginebra’s hopes for a finish for a twice-to-beat bonus in the playoffs alive, pending the results of the last two playing dates of the elimination round.
The Elasto Painters closed the elims at 8-3, half a game behind the San Miguel Beermen’s 8-2 card.
Rain or Shine is already assured of a twice-to-beat edge in the quarterfinals.
Felix Lemetti led the Elasto Painters with 14 points while Adrian Nocum added 13 points.
