Young Philippine gymnast Karl Eldrew Yulo clinched a spot in the finals of the 2026 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Osijek, Croatia on Thursday.

At the men’s floor exercise qualifications, Eldrew secured his finals ticket with a score of 14.200, for second place just behind American Kameron Nelson, who drew a score of 14.300.

In third place was Belarus’ Yahor Sharamkou with a score of 14.133 and just behind him were Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat (14.133) and Great Britain’s Harry Hepworth (14.066).

During the Paris Olympics two years ago, Dolgopyat and Hepworth won silver and bronze behind Yulo’s older brother, Carlos, who won two gold medals in the floor exercise and the vault.

The younger Yulo was fresh from a two bronze medal finish at the World Cup event in Cairo, Egypt earlier this month.

He will also take part in the second half of the qualifying round in Croatia. ARIC JOHN SY CUA
