MANILA, Philippines — The province of Pangasinan in Region 1 and Bulacan in Region 3 will experience the highest heat index over the next two days, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.
Pangasinan will experience between 46 degrees Celsius and 47 degrees Celsius temperature while Bulacan, specifically in San Ildefonso, at 43 degrees Celsius.
Pagasa defines heat index as the feeling of heat or the apparent temperature due to a combination of actual air and humidity.
Meanwhile, the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela and Maguindanao and the city of Olongapo in Zambales will sizzle at 41 degrees Celsius. Pagasa placed the affected areas under "extreme caution," the national weather bureau said.
Pagasa warns that residents in areas where the heat index has been classified under "extreme caution" may experience heat stroke with continuing activity while those in the "danger level" may feel heat exhaustion, heat cramps and heat stroke with continuing activity.
To stay safe during a high heat index, Pagasa administrator Nathaniel Servando said the public must "prioritize staying cool and hydrated, avoid strenuous activities during the hottest periods and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces."
