MANILA, Philippines — The tennis world has been left impressed by Alex Eala after she showcased her ability to speak Spanish during interviews at the Mutua Madrid Open in Madrid.
Even the on-court host conducting the interview was surprised when Eala suddenly spoke in Spanish, where she thanked fans for their continued support.
Eala shared that Spain holds a special place in her heart, as it is where her tennis career was shaped. She lived in Spain for eight years while training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, which helped hone her skills and develop her talent.
Because of this, Eala also learned to speak Spanish.
“It’s improving and I’ve been in Mallorca for many years at Rafa Nadal Academy. But since I travel a lot, I don’t spend very much time there. So every time I return to Spain, it improves even more,” Eala said.
Eala is also often seen during matches receiving instructions from her coaches in Spanish.
However, the young Filipina admitted she is still not fully confident speaking the language.
“I’m so shy because I don’t know. It’s on social media and everyone sees me speaking Spanish and I feel a little embarrassed,” she added. TMT
