In a viral post shared on Thursday, a Reddit user feels watched while hanging out in the yard—then they turn around and can’t believe who is spying on them from behind the yard fence.

The hilarious post shared by u/Saltry_Baby3951 shows a small tabby cat sticking their head out of the wooden yard fence, observing the poster’s every move. “Can you understand the feeling of being watched? This is not my cat,” the poster wrote in the caption.

Cats are known for being inquisitive, and you will often find them peeking from the window or just following you around to check what you are up to. But have you ever wondered where their curiosity comes from?

Felines are naturally curious creatures for several key reasons, according to a Catster article medically reviewed and fact-checked by Dr. Luqman Javed.

Their intelligence drives them to explore and learn about their surroundings, including their human companions. As highly territorial animals, cats are vigilant about monitoring their space, especially when something changes.

Feline curiosity is also tied to their hunting instincts—searching behind furniture mimics their wild behavior of stalking prey. Sometimes, they are simply seeking a cozy hiding spot, either for rest or play.

Curiosity may also be a sign your cat is craving attention, especially if they follow you or interrupt your activities. Hunger can be another motivator, especially if your feline associates certain times or behaviors with food.

Lastly, cats are intrigued by humans and often investigate us out of affection and a desire to understand our actions.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 4,900 views and 78 comments on the platform.

One user, Love-that-dog, commented: “Neighborhood Watch.”

Blighted-Spire63 said: “Do something entertaining, they look unimpressed.”

Tippytoecat added: “Must be something interesting going on over on your side of the fence.”
