Great Dane Owner Buys Home—Unprepared for ‘Matching Set’ That Comes With It

After closing a deal on a new home, a dog owner learned that the place came with a surprise—a stray cat who looks exactly like a small feline version of their “tuxedo” great Dane.

In a viral Reddit post shared on Wednesday under the username u/Educational-System27, the poster revealed that after buying a new home they were told about the kitty who used to rely on the previous home owners for food, and immediately decided to make him part of the family.

“Our new house came with a cat,” the caption says. “Just closed on a house and the former owner mentioned a stray cat she fed and being worried about what would happen to him. Lucky for her (and kitty) I’m a vet tech, so he’ll be going to work with me next week to get tested, neutered, and vaccinated!”

In the comments the poster explained that the kitty actually looks like what they call their “tuxedo” great Dane, who also happens to love kitties.

“Now I have a matching set,” they continued.

Despite their reputation for being each other’s worst enemy, cats and dogs can actually get along very well.

A study carried out by Italian scientists in 2020 and published in the journal PLOS ONE found that not only can the two easily cohabitate without much conflict, but they can also become best of friends.

Findings from the study showed that over 64 percent of the cats and dogs living together also played together, 58 percent chased each other and 41 percent fought. Almost two-thirds of the pets sometimes playfully “ambushed” each other.

The key to building a strong bond between your pets is their introduction, which should be carried out slowly and mindfully, allowing the pets to get to know each other at their own pace and without forced interactions. You can read more about how to introduce your pets here.

The post quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 24,000 upvotes and 519 comments on the platform.

One user, Malnurtured_Snay, commented: “Your new cat came with his own house and you’re welcome to stay there.”
