An Arizona-based dachshund’s world was seemingly turned upside down after it had to come to terms with the presence of a new, younger sibling.
A viral Instagram video posted by the dogs’ owner under @boone_the_weenie captured the exact moment the adult dachshund appeared to realize his owner’s lap, once exclusively his domain, has been occupied by a much smaller interloper.
The short clip, which has been viewed more than 690,000 times since it was shared to the platform on January 28, shows a dachshund puppy sleeping peacefully under a blanket on its owner’s lap.
At first glance, the scene looked serene, but that illusion quickly shattered when older dog Boone clocked what was happening. He began scratching insistently at the blanket covering the puppy and their owner, whining, crying and fuming, clearly offended by the unexpected new nap arrangement.
The video’s caption sets the scene for viewers: “Keep in mind he was totally fine until he realized Beau was under the covers. for those who are new, don’t worry they are BFFs now.”
An overlaid text added further context: “I got my baby a baby and he was not happy he had to share the bed.”
The short moment of canine jealousy struck a chord among viewers online who quickly flooded the comment section with laughter, sympathy and knowing observations about dachshund behavior. Many joked that Boone’s reaction perfectly encapsulated the breed’s reputation for being deeply attached, and unapologetically possessive, of their favorite humans.
Dachshunds, originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers and rabbits, are known for their bold personalities and strong sense of loyalty. Despite their unusual body shape and small size, they often display huge confidence and an intense bond with just one member of their household.
Canine behaviorists frequently describe the breed as affectionate but stubborn, and prone to jealousy.
That dynamic was on full display in Boone’s furious reaction. While Beau slept soundly, blissfully unaware of the drama unfolding next to him, Boone’s escalating protests suggested less sibling rivalry and more a perceived breach of contract.
Instagram users quickly picked apart the hilarious moment, with many comparing Boone’s behavior to that of an older sibling adjusting to the arrival of a newborn.
“He has the baby blues,” one viewer said, while another added: “He thinks if he closes his eyes, it will all go away.”
