The cat distribution system can strike at any moment, leaving a random feline in the hands of anyone, and one Instagram video proved it can also happen in any location.
Feline expert and veterinarian Dr. Matt McGlasson explained in his August Instagram video under his account @dr.mattmcglasson that he made a quick stop at Panda Express in Indianapolis. But when he walked into the bathroom and heard crying meows coming from inside, he was left speechless.
Following the sound, he discovered a tiny black kitten hiding behind the toilet. The kitty looked up at him with giant, hopeful eyes of being rescued. Even as a veterinarian, McGlasson questioned how and why this happened. He said in the video: “What am I supposed to do?”
“It must have been placed there pretty soon before I found it, because it was a public bathroom,” he told Newsweek via email.
His expertise kicked in as he instantly picked her up and began making a plan for the kitten’s future. One of the employees had been wanting a kitten and agreed to take this one home, but she was not prepared with supplies. Plus, she was still on the clock.
McGlasson made a quick pit stop at PetSmart to pick up supplies for the kitten, including food, litter and water bowls, which he then gifted to the employee.
“I purchased all of the supplies to help her get started with the kitty, and she took him home,” he said.
The end of the clip shows the kitten secured in a to-go box from Panda Express since the employee did not have a carrier. McGlasson gave her a final goodbye, telling her how lucky she was to be found.
With over 622,000 views and 78,000 likes on Instagram as of Tuesday, people felt heartbroken and relieved. They couldn’t believe the kitten was abandoned inside the bathroom, but they were thankful for McGlasson finding her.
“I love that you went and bought the basic supplies for them. Such a kind soul,” wrote a viewer, while a second echoed: “That was so kind of you to help with a little starter pack.”
Someone else commented: “She knew she was in the presence of a crazy cat lover, so she mewwwwd for help.”
Others offered name suggestions, including Panda, Lo Mein and Take Out.
Newsweek reached out to Panda Express via email for additional comment.
