Artificial intelligence is being employed to enhance the driver and fan experience at races one of the world’s premiere race series.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, where drivers pilot solo-seat battery-electric race cars, has 17 races on its 2025-2026 season calendar. Through a new, multi-year partnership with Google Cloud, Formula E will implement AI across numerous series operations.

Google Gemini, the company’s multimodal generative AI models and assistant, will be used to accelerate performance, deliver faster and more efficient operations, a press release said.

“Elevating Google Cloud to a Principal Partner isn’t just a sponsorship agreement; it’s the moment we fully plug Formula E into the world’s most powerful AI engine. By integrating Gemini models directly into our racing ecosystem, we effectively give every fan the same insight as if they were in the team,” Dan Cherowbrier, Chief Technology Officer at Formula E told Newsweek.

This isn’t the first time Formula E and the technology giant have worked together. A technology partnership allowed the race series to set an indoor land speed record and the Mountain Recharge project that allowed a car to regenerate enough energy on the descent to complete a full lap of the historic Monaco racing circuit.

The racing series intends to change its fan experience by integrating Strategy Agent into live broadcast. Fans tuning in will see tailored insights, predictions, and explanations throughout the race.

“Through our new GenAI-driven Strategy Agent, we strip away the complexity of elite motorsport in real-time. Fans will no longer just watch a race; they will be able to understand it. Whether it’s predicting energy depletion three laps out or explaining a split-second overtaking maneuver using live telemetry, this integration turns raw data into an narrative you can follow,” Cherowbrier explained.

He continued: “For our fans, the benefit is clear: a more immersive, transparent, and intelligent broadcast that brings them closer to the race seat than ever before.”

Formula E is also set to adopt Google Workspace to create a more efficient organization. The integration includes advanced AI modeling of Formula E’s back office operations and creating digital twins of races and events.

The event digital twins will be used to simulate site builds for race weekends to optimize the operational logistics of the events.
