Chiweenie Has Puppies With Pit Bull, Internet Not Prepared for Result

A Reddit post featuring a uniquely shaped rescue dog has left social media users speechless.

The post—titled “I really underestimated how much I would love this little guy”—was shared by 40-year-old owner Kendall Clark from Portland, Oregon, and features a slideshow of the crossbreed called Tank.

Clark, who goes by user cream-rinse told Newsweek that Tank came from an accidental litter with an unusually mismatched parentage: his father was a chiweenie — a cross between a miniature dachshund and a Chihuahua — and his mother, a pit bull. The genetic combination resulted in a sturdy, blocky pit bull-like head fused to a long, low-slung dachshund-style body.

Despite initially resisting the idea of adopting a dog, Clark said: “He immediately stole our hearts.

“He was shy at first but wanted to cuddle as closely as possible. From that day on he has become my shadow.”

Tank’s appearance quickly became a talking point on Reddit, earning where 13,000 upvotes since it was posted on January 1.

One commenter summed up the general reaction: “It’s not a blend of features though haha. Straight up pit bull head, on a dachshund body. I love it.”

Another user agreed, writing: “Looks like they popped pit bull head off of its body and stuck it on a wiener dogs body.”

Others compared Tank to Scrappy-Doo, the feisty fictional nephew of Scooby-Doo known for his confidence and pint-sized bravado.

Clark has heard this comparison many times.

“People call him Scrappy-Doo and sometimes people laugh at him but it’s mostly in a good way,” she told Newsweek.

“He looks fierce in the window barking because he has the bark of a pit bull. It is loud and deep, so we say he looks like a good guard dog from the neck up.”

While Tank’s bark and head shape scream intimidating, his personality couldn’t be more different.

Clark explained that he often hides behind her legs when meeting strangers, and despite his bold appearance, he’s a soft-natured companion who thrives on attention.

“He is calm but prefers the attention to always be on him, typically sitting on guests and starring at them until they pet him,” she said.

“He has been known to use his nose to flip your phone out of your hand so that you will pet him. He gets tons of attention when we go out and his spoiled by his grandma.”

Currently, Tank is in excellent health. Clark said vets have warned he may be at risk of arthritis later in life, so she and her partner keep him active to strengthen his muscles.

And when it comes to playtime, Tank’s unusual proportions don’t slow him down — or make him picky.

“He loves to play with other dogs,” Clark said. “He seems to have no idea how small he is.”
