Warriors’ Trade Rumors Involving Anthony Davis Get Insider Update

The Golden State Warriors are going to be an incredibly interesting team to keep an eye on as the 2025 NBA trade deadline continues to draw closer.

So far this season, the Warriors have shown flashes of being a team who could contend for an NBA Finals run. However, in other moments, they have looked like a team who could be a first-round out in the Western Conference.

At this point in the year, it’s clear that Golden State simply hasn’t found its identity. There is a lot of talent on the roster, but it hasn’t come together and gelled quite yet. That could change, but moves could be explored before the deadline.

One idea that has been connected to the Warriors for a couple of weeks has been a potential trade for Dallas Mavericks superstar big man Anthony Davis.

Davis has been a hot topic in the NBA rumor mill. Golden State would make a lot of sense as a potential suitor. Now, a new update has been provided about the Warriors’ potential interest level in making a move for Davis.

Sam Amick of The Athletic, a longtime NBA insider, revealed that the Mavericks were actually the team who instigated the talks with Golden State. The Warriors did not come calling about Davis.

“While a league source said the Mavericks do have interest in the Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga, who can’t be traded until Jan. 15 but is widely expected to be dealt before the deadline, the fifth-year forward’s salary ($22.5 million) comes well short of Davis’ ($54.1 million) and would thus require the inclusion of another big contract — i.e. Green ($25.8 million),” Amick wrote. “What’s more, it should be noted that the Mavericks called Golden State about the Davis possibility — and not the other way around.”

Throughout his NBA career, Davis has consistently been one of the NBA’s best big men. Unfortunately, he has dealt with more than his fair share of injury issues.

Last season, he was the centerpiece of the trade that sent Luka Doncic from Dallas to the Los Angeles Lakers. With all of the rumors surrounding him, it sounds like his time with the Mavericks could be limited.

In 16 games played this season, the 32-year-old forward has averaged 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game. He has also shot 52.1 percent from the floor and 32.3 percent from three-point range.

Whether or not Golden State will pursue a trade for Davis or not remains to be seen. However, the Warriors are worth keeping an eye on as a possible suitor.
