Laughter As Dachshund’s ‘Best Day Ever’ Ends in Unexpected Heartbreak

Hearts have melted at a dog having the “best day ever” at the beach—only to endure every canine’s worst nightmare when he got home.

Megan Robicheau, 33, lives by the coast in Massachusetts with her dachshund, Roswell. She told Newsweek that he “grew up on the beach.”

“It’s his favorite place to be,” Robicheau said. “Between the sniffs, the digging opportunities, and the long walks, he has so much fun.

“We are lucky to live near the beach and take him there nearly every day,” the owner added.

But while Roswell loves the beach and each little adventure that comes with it, every trip, sadly, has to come to an end.

And when Roswell gets home, he has to do something he is clearly not a fan of—as showcased in a viral video to Robicheau’s TikTok account, @roswell_weenie.

Posted on November 11, and set to the chorus of Village People’s hit “YMCA,” Robicheau wrote over the video: “When your dog thinks he’s having the best day ever.”

It shows Roswell, damp from the sea, digging furiously in the sand. Deep claw marks all around him show he has been at this for a while, and a pile of freshly dug-up sand is visible behind him.

But then the video switches: the music stops, the beach disappears, and a now-less-than-impressed Roswell is shown hovering over the bath, soaked to the skin, with sand and dirt caking the tub beneath him.

The music switches to a sad piano song, matching Roswell’s sad eyes after he has been forced to endure a warm, soapy bath, as Robicheau wrote in the caption: “Even the best days have to end.”

Explaining the humorous switch-up, Robicheau said: “I saw another person posted their dog to that sound, and knew I had the perfect video clips that would fit great—from the pure happiness at the beach to the sadness that is a bath.”

TikTok users loved it, awarding the video more than 788,000 likes and watching it 5.8 million times.

One commenter laughed at “all the evidence in the bathtub,” while one pleaded: “Let him play a little longer!”

Dog owners flocked to the comments to compare Roswell to their own pups, as one said their canine loves “cold, dirty street water” but hates “warm, clean bath water.”

“My dog begs to get sprayed with the hose but as soon as he’s in the tub he shakes like a leaf,” another said.

While many pups love to splash around in water, bath time can be a challenge for owners.

There are many reasons a canine might hate bath time, from recalling a previous bad experience like getting soap in their eyes or pain caused from having their ears cleaned, to becoming stressed out at the loss of control and having their bodies handled in a way they are not used to, according to Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

Reacting to the huge response to Roswell’s video, his owner told Newsweek: “We are so thankful for all the love that Roswell gets on a daily basis.

“I have been posting Roswell online since the day I brought him home eight years ago, and he has been loved by millions ever since.”
