A dachshund’s fearless leap into open water has captured the internet’s attention after a short video showing the dog confidently jumping from seaside steps into the sea went viral on TikTok, delighting viewers who were surprised to see the tiny dog so at ease in the open water.

The clip was shared on February 22 by TikTok user @tanishakiem, quickly racking up more than 111,000 views and over 19,000 likes. In the video, a black-and-tan dachshund is seen launching herself from a set of stairs into clear blue water before paddling confidently nearby, her owner visible close by as she swims. Another dachshund, presumably the canine’s sibling, stayed on leash at the top of the stairs, clearly hesitant to dive in too. The family appear to be on vacation in the footage.

The post was captioned simply: “She LOVES the water.”

The video appears to have grabbed attention because dachshunds are not typically associated with swimming prowess.

Bred historically for hunting badgers, these short-legged dogs are often assumed to be cautious around water, making this dog’s enthusiastic plunge all the more striking for viewers accustomed to seeing the breed avoid baths and puddles, let alone open sea.

Still, the dog’s joyful confidence is on full display in the lighthearted clip. Rather than hesitating at the water’s edge, she bounds in without pause, surfacing calmly and swimming with apparent ease. The clarity of the water and the relaxed presence of her owner nearby added a sense of safety for viewers on the platform.

They quickly flooded the comment section with amused and affectionate reactions.

“She’s gonna have the best nap of life later,” one viewer wrote.

Another commented: “This makes me so HAPPY. They’re adorable.”

Other commenters contrasted the water-loving dachshund with their own pets.

“Mine hates water,” one viewer admitted, while another joked: “Showing my dog this.”

Several viewers simply marveled at the dog’s joy and confidence in the clip.

“Wow she really does! Look at her go,” one comment read, while another summed up the mood with: “She’s just living her best life.”
