The reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night, but Yoshi was the main attraction.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hits theaters on Wednesday, and the Dodgers celebrated by giving out Yoshi bobbleheads to the first 40,000 fans. According to MLB.com’s Sonja Chen, some Dodgers players asked reigning World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto to sign their Yoshi bobbleheads.

Then, Yoshi himself (sort of) threw out the first pitch.

Emmy-winning and Grammy-winning polymath Donald Glover voices Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, so he threw out the first pitch to Yamamoto while a Yoshi mascot stood nearby. Glover did surprisingly well.

The ball sailed on him a bit, but he had plenty of arm and pitched well within the plate’s vicinity, which is more than other stars can say. Looking at you, 50 Cent and Travis Kelce.

Glover brought his family to Game 4 of the 2025 World Series at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers lost 6-2 to the Toronto Blue Jays, but they won the war — winning Game 7 5-4 in 11 innings to become back-to-back World Series champions.

Glover appeared calm, cool, and collected on the mound, but he recently told Extra how nervous he was to take on the role of Yoshi.

“[I] started off a little timid,” Glover said. “I was like, ‘OK, how am I gonna do this? These guys did such a great job on the first one, and that’s a hard thing to do. It’s a very iconic movie and character. I always believe in the idea of underpromising and overdelivering, and I think I was like, I’ll just study really, and hopefully I’ll be beloved like them.”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie premiered in 2023 and was directed by Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, and Pierre Leduc, and written by Matthew Fogel.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie returned Horvath, Jelenic, and Leduc as directors, and was written by Fogel. Chris Pratt reprised his role of Mario, as did Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad.

Alongside Glover, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie adds Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, Brie Larson as Rosalina, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. to the universe.
