After months of speculation, “The Mummy” Reboot is officially moving forward with series regulars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprising their roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn O’Connell, respectively.

Initially, the movie bringing back Fraser to his most beloved role was rumored, and somewhat confirmed. However, the star said to Radio Times back in January that wasn’t the case.

“My lips are sealed! I’m hopeful to have good news soon because I know how popular the films were,” Fraser said.

“Would I like to? Absolutely. I’ve always said I like the idea, and I always will. It’s just… Well, it’s not up to me to pull that trigger!” Fraser added.

After months of speculation, it has finally been reported that “The Mummy” is for sure heading back to the movies. Deadline reported on the news, which came from Universal. The reboot has a release date of May 19, 2028, and will bring back both Fraser and Weisz.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will lead the new movie, with David Coggeshall writing the screenplay.

Though fans will have to wait some time before the movie is released, there are a number of potential other original cast members who could be joining the O’Connells.

Which original ‘The Mummy’ cast members could return?

John Hannah as Jonathan Carnahan

With Rick and Evelyn O’Connell back in the universe of “The Mummy,” it would make sense for them to be joined by potential characters that graced the first three movies. The most obvious being Evelyn’s witty brother, Jonathan.

Jonathan was a character that most fans loved to see, as he served as the comedic relief in an action series that perfectly blends punchlines and punches. Seemingly, wherever Rick and Evelyn go, Jonathan is not far behind.

Alex O’Connell

The story for “The Mummy” is being kept under wraps, so there is no telling if Alex will be involved. Initially, he was portrayed by Freddie Boath in “The Mummy Returns” and recast with Luke Ford in “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.”

If there is no time jump or retcon of the third movie, Alex may be back, but could also be potentially a younger actor taking on the role of the mischievous O’Connell’s son.

Arnold Vosloo as Imhotep

Let’s face it. As iconic as Fraser and Weisz are as the O’Connell’s, Arnold Vosloo is just as iconic as Imhotep. While the fans may want to see a new big baddie, it would make a world of sense for the franchise to truly return to its roots by bringing in the original mummified villain.

Imhotep was the villain for the first two films, and nobody cared that it was a repeat. He was fantastic and could be tasked with returning once again.

Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay

“The Mummy” worked due to the secret society of the Medjai. Oded Fehr also appeared in the first two films as Ardeth Bay, a man on a mission to stop Imhotep from being resurrected. Granted, he failed both times, but it made for some entertaining stories.

Rick is a psuedo member of the Medjai, and Ardeth returning to help quell the next mummy from wreaking havoc on the world would make a lot of sense.
