Watching from the window, a mini Australian shepherd puppy spots his owner parking and walking toward the house—what he does next has the internet falling in love with him.

In a January 29 Instagram video posted to the account @thelifeofluka12, one owner films from inside the house as 5-month-old Luka excitedly responds to the husband returning home. His tiny tail wags as his front paws perch on the windowsill and he watches every step the owner outside takes, before Luka erupts into full-body wiggles—a daily ritual every time the owners walk through the door.

Owner Geraldine Aguso said Luka’s enthusiastic greetings began as soon as he joined the family three months ago, and they’re a big reason the couple looks forward to getting home each day. Luka continues to jump for joy the moment they step inside, unable to contain himself, whether they’ve been gone for minutes or hours.

“Even when my husband steps out to take the garbage out for two minutes, Luka acts as if he was gone for an hour,” she said.

‘Wiggle Butt’

As energetic and loyal dogs, Aussies form strong attachments to their families and often express their excitement in a similar manner Luka showed, otherwise known as “wiggle butt.” This trait developed because many Australian shepherds historically had docked or naturally bobbed tails, so inside of wagging a long tail, the entire rear end moves to express joy, according to an article from WagWalking. The happier the dog, the bigger the wiggle—and in some cases, they’ll “curl” into a loose U‑shape because the enthusiasm takes over their whole body.

The article notes that about 28 percent of Aussies naturally have bobbed tails, and tail docking was historically common, making the full body wiggle a hallmark trait of the breed.

Viewer Reactions

The Instagram clip melted hearts, bringing in over 1 million views, and for viewers, it captured a simple truth about the human-animal bond: sometimes the smallest greetings carried the biggest meaning.

“This is my favorite part of every workday! Coming home to my little potato!!” wrote one user.

Another joked: “That looks more like me when I come home to my Aussie.”

A third person said: “The Aussie wiggle is forever my favorite.”
