A couple brought home a new puppy, hoping their older dog would gain a best friend, but her icy first reaction made it clear she hadn’t approved the plan.
Sophia Kremitzki told Newsweek she and her partner, Conner Robbins, first adopted Daisy Mae from a rescue in 2019. Since then, their pit bull has been the “queen of the household.” But the couple thought Daisy Mae would benefit from an additional playmate, so they welcomed home a golden retriever puppy named Biscuit in 2024.
However, it did not go as planned.
“Little did we know Daisy and Biscuit’s personalities are very different,” she said. “Daisy loves to lay around and is very calm, while Biscuit is the typical golden retriever and is very social and loves to play!”
In a throwback video from the dogs’ first day together, Biscuit sat on Kremitzki’s lap during the half-hour drive home, while Daisy Mae immediately gave the newcomer the silent treatment. The camera panned toward Daisy Mae, who sat in the back seat with her head turned toward the back window. She refused to look at the new pup because, as the caption reads, she thought “out of sight, out of mind.”
“When we saw Daisy refusing to look at Biscuit on the car ride home, we couldn’t contain our laughter which is what made me start recording!” she said. “It was hilarious.”
The moment, posted on TikTok to her account @sophialynnxxx on February 6, drew more than 7.9 million views and 2.3 million likes, with people cracking up over Daisy Mae’s stubbornness. Kremitzki said Daisy Mae did “not look at him once” during the entire car ride.
“Daisy Mae breathing hella fast she’s fuming,” pointed out one user.
Another person commented: “She said, ‘No one asked for my opinion.'”
The family’s new addition has been an adjustment for Daisy Mae, with Biscuit bringing a livelier rhythm to the house, which she has started to tolerate and sometimes love. The couple will sometimes catch the two dogs snuggling on the couch.
“Their relationship has grown, and they love each other dearly,” Kremitzki said. “Although, Biscuit will always be Daisy’s ‘little annoying brother.’ He knows just how to push his older sister’s buttons, and she does a great job putting up with it!”
New Dog Adjustment Period
The adjustment periods between dogs can vary widely, with some pairs bonding instantly and others taking several weeks to feel fully comfortable. Gradual introductions, supervised interactions, and giving each dog its own space can help ease the transition, according to the American Kennel Club. Minor setbacks are common and typically improve with consistency and patience.
