Man Calls Girlfriend a ‘Drama Queen’—Then They Adopt Labrador Puppy

A man who once brushed off his girlfriend as a “drama queen” got a swift reality check after the couple adopted a Labrador retriever puppy.

A TikTok clip showing the reality of raising a Labrador puppy has struck a chord with viewers after one moment of grooming chaos flipped a long‑running relationship joke on its head. The video, shared by Niamh Watson (@niamhwatsonn_x), has amassed over 136,300 likes and more than 606,000 views.

Text overlaid on the clip reads: “My boyfriend thought I was a drama queen until he had to raise our Labrador.”

In the video, the young Labrador clings tightly to Watson’s leg while being brushed by his “dad,” refusing to let go as Watson strokes his head to reassure him. The puppy appears anxious, wide-eyed, and very attached.

Watson’s caption summed it up simply: “Hair brush = medieval torture.”

While the moment is undeniably cute, it also reflects a genuine adjustment phase many puppy owners recognize. Experts at the American Kennel Club say Labradors have short, dense, weather‑resistant double coats that benefit from regular brushing—not only to remove loose fur and distribute natural oils, but also to help puppies become comfortable with handling from an early age.

The AKC notes that young dogs often need time to adjust to grooming sensations, and recommends gentle handling and positive reinforcement to help them learn that brushing isn’t a threat but part of routine care.

TikTok Reacts

Comments quickly filled with fellow dog owners sharing their own, very different grooming experiences.

“My Labrador LOVES the brush. She even lies down on her back, can’t get enough of it, so interesting how different Labradors can be,” wrote Katix.

“What a cutie,” added Jodie, while Samantha pointed out, “He’s just a baby.”

Others focused on the pup’s Velcro‑like behavior.

“How insanely cute,” one user said, while another simply commented, “the clinging.”

Some took the conversation beyond brushing, swapping stories about bath‑time trauma.

“Last week we tried to wash mine but he didn’t realise that washing involved water (????) so ran inside as soon as he heard the hose tap go on and had to be carried outside,” Tilly shared.

Skylar added that reassurance is non‑negotiable in her household: “I have to hug my lurcher when she’s in the bath. If I don’t stroke her and give her nose kisses and tell her it’s okay she’ll jump out.”
