A woman who spent hours in bed feeling under the weather has melted hearts across the internet after revealing who was patiently waiting outside the door for her to finally arise.
At the start of January, Marielle Farmer, 26, started to feel unwell due to a change in the weather. She told Newsweek that she felt “extra tired and congested,” and was also experiencing migraines over the course of the week.
Farmer, who resides in Denver, Colorado, spent a full 12 hours trying to sleep it off and finally letting her body unwind. Little did she know that when she got up the next morning and opened her bedroom door, there was a special someone waiting outside for her.
Farmer’s rescue dog named Pickle, a Chihuahua and Shih Tzu mix, was sitting on the other side of the door, staring intently until it finally opened.
“I always know when to expect Pickle waiting for me because my partner wakes up early and will take him out to go potty and eat breakfast,” Farmer said. “The bedroom door stays closed because he doesn’t want to wake me while he’s moving around the house, and Pickle will jump on me and bite my toes if he’s in the room.
“I think they’d been up for a few hours, but Pickle must’ve heard me wake up. So, he jumped down from the couch to wait for me to open the door.”
It was such a touching moment for Farmer to see 1-year-old Pickle keenly anticipating her emergence from the bedroom, especially as she’d been feeling so unwell. As she knew he’d be there, Farmer had her phone ready to capture the adorable moment. She couldn’t resist sharing it on the TikTok account she shares with Pickle (@merandpickle), and needless to say, it’s melted plenty of hearts across the internet.
The video clip shows Farmer opening the door to see Pickle sitting directly in front of her with his giant puppy eyes. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 434,100 views and more than 182,700 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
The caption layered over the video reads: “When I wake up from my 12-hour Benadryl induced sleep and find my dog still waiting for me outside the room.”
Aside from ensuring his favorite human was feeling alright, there was only one thing Pickle wanted— snuggles. Of course, Farmer didn’t hesitate and instantly gave Pickle all the fuss and cuddles he could want.
“He’s a Chihuahua, so he was probably worried why mom hadn’t woken up yet (as dad is the second favorite human on his list),” Farmer continued.
When Farmer initially met Pickle, she was just going to foster him for a couple of weeks until a permanent adopter came forward. But those two weeks together simply weren’t enough, as Farmer told Newsweek that she absolutely fell in love with him and knew he’d found his forever home with her. Now, there’s no denying that Pickle is Farmer’s best friend, as she even jokes that he’s become her “whole personality.”
The online reaction to the video has been overwhelmingly positive, as internet users praised the caring nature of pets (while others joked about how impatient their own dog would be).
Farmer said: “Some people are upset he wasn’t in the bedroom with me, but most have just been gushing over how cute he is, which is why I wanted to share the video. He has the biggest puppy eyes and his ears fold back and he shakes with excitement.”
Among the comments on the video, one TikTok user wrote: “That is the saddest face i have ever seen.”
Another person replied: “Aww little baby just wanted mama.”
While one comment reads: “Yall her dog is a part of paw patrol… he’s obviously on a mission to look out.”
