After a cat went missing while his owner had works done in the bathroom, nobody knew where he was until they realized.

In a viral video shared on Instagram on January 9, the poster, @kiely.gregg, explains: “They sealed my cat underneath the bath.”

The clip, shows workers cutting into the marble bathtub, unsealing the fluffy tabby cat, who can be seen getting out of there seemingly unharmed.

Newsweek reached out to @kiely.gregg for comment via Instagram. We could not verify the details of the case.

To keep cats safe and relaxed during home renovations or building work, Cats Protection recommends planning ahead by arranging alternative care, such as a cattery or trusted friends, especially for major projects.

To prevent accidents, cats should be kept away from construction areas and potential hazards like chemicals, tools, and loose nails.

Maintaining familiar routines helps reduce stress, so food bowls, litter trays, and toys should stay in their usual places or be moved gradually if necessary. Feeding schedules and daily habits should remain consistent to reassure the cat.

Creating a quiet, cat‑only space away from noise is ideal, allowing the cat freedom to come and go to avoid anxiety. Elevated resting spots can also help them feel secure.

Cats may show stress from home works through hiding, withdrawal, reduced tolerance, changes in eating, anxiety, restlessness, grooming less or excessively, and indoor soiling.

Paint and chemical fumes can be dangerous for cats, so avoid exposure and contact a vet if poisoning is suspected. Store tools and chemicals safely and use a separate “safe room.”

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 1.1 million views and 50,400 likes on the platform.

One user, Alex.loves.cats, asked: “How do you accidentally do that?”

And another user, Dylan.green5.0, commented: “Probably hid on the other side of the tub and was too scared of the strange men in her home to come out before it got closed up. Our cat loved going under the tub when we were renovating the bathroom.”

Marzvrover warned: “Cats can easily get into dangerous situations around construction you should never have let your cat have access to the bathroom while they were working.”

The kitty’s owner hasn’t posted any updates on the matter on her profile.
