A social-media post about an unexpectedly thoughtful reply a resident received from a neighbor following a request to reduce late‑night noise has sparked outpouring of positivity.

The Reddit post, titled “Good People Exist,” was shared by u/BangusAngus in the r/Apartmentliving subreddit. It has gathered more than 5,500 upvotes since it was posted on January 14, drawing praise from users who welcomed a rare example of neighborly goodwill.

In the caption of the post, the resident explained the situation, saying: “Some background—We’ve been in our unit for half a year and never have had any issues. Recently our neighbors below had some loud bass playing at night when we were trying to sleep. We could tell it wasn’t excessive, it was just carrying through the floor unfortunately.”

Hoping to resolve the issue amicably, the poster left a note for the neighbors explaining the disturbance. What they didn’t expect was the warm, apologetic handwritten message waiting for them soon after.

According to the post, the neighbors’ response read: “Hello Neighbor. We are very sorry for the noise & any inconvenience! We did get a new sound system recently & will adjust levels accordingly. Our sincere apologies! We both do our best to be good neighbors, & both feel bad that this has been happening. Thank you for the considerate note and for being understanding. Please let us know if you continue to hear things or if there’s anything else! Thank you.”

The poster wrote that they had been anxious about leaving the note, adding: “We left a note, and were super stressed about it. Came back to this lovely note, and last night was quiet. Sometimes things do work out!”

Awkward interactions with neighbors over noise aren’t unusual. A recent survey conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Newsweek found that 1,000 U.S. adults reported a wide range of disputes with neighbors—from late‑night disturbances and lawn disagreements to boundary issues and property damage. In this case, however, what could have become a tense situation instead turned into an example of mutual respect and good communication.

Reddit users were delighted by the neighbors’ kind response. In the comments, u/Ok-Willow-9145 said: “Good neighbors are priceless. Add these folks to your holiday greeting list.”

Meanwhile, u/Outrageous_Light8950 wrote: “You have some amazing neighbors!! You get what you give so that means you are a good neighbor too :).”

Another user, u/whatevenidc, added: “This is what community is all about.”

Reacting to the thoughtful reply, u/nightblue888 commented, “Respectful audiophiles!” while u/Atomic-Avocado noted: “It’s sad that a response like this is surprising.”

Newsweek has contacted the original poster for comment via the Reddit messaging system.
