Pet cam footage captured the chaotic moment a 7-month-old kitten tried to take on the Christmas tree, and it’s left the internet in hysterics.

After putting up her Christmas tree this year, Nicola Sinclair, 24, noticed how inquisitive her kitten, named Mila, became. Indeed, the curious feline repeatedly approached the tree and kept crawling underneath it on the first night.

Sinclair, from the U.K, told Newsweek that Mila managed to break off several branches from the tree and the “baubles were all over” the room within hours. As a result, Sinclair and her boyfriend kept Mila out of the lounge whenever she was unsupervised.

Nevertheless, when the two owners were headed out recently, they debated whether to close the lounge off or to give Mila full access. Sinclair was keen to test her kitten’s obedience and allowed Mila to have free rein of the house.

A decision she would soon come to regret.

“We left the house to go and let my parents’ dogs out, then we went for a bit of Christmas shopping,” Sinclair said. “The day the tree was knocked down, we decided to try her with it again as she had been good. She would sit under the tree but would leave it alone most of the time.

“When we came home, we found the tree on the floor. So, we decided to check the camera to see what happened and found she had been climbing the tree since we left.”

The owners left their home at 12.52 pm, and by 1.17 pm the tree was clattered on the floor.

Sinclair couldn’t help but laugh as soon as she walked in and saw the Christmas tree had been knocked over. They checked the pet cam footage and couldn’t believe their eyes.

The footage shows the moment the tree fell dramatically to the ground, only for Mila to suddenly emerge from within the branches and scamper away. Sinclair couldn’t resist sharing the pet cam video on TikTok (@nicola01spam) and it’s gone viral with 388,700 views and 75,300 likes at the time of writing.

Internet users can’t get enough of Mila’s antics, but it’s pretty hard to defend such incriminating evidence.

Sinclair said: “The video was shared as a joke for my family and friends, but within a matter of hours, it completely blew up. It was completely unexpected. But we would like to add that she was completely unharmed and was instantly back to being her chaotic self after the incident.”

Thankfully, Mila has kept away from the Christmas tree after this mishap and it’s still standing (just about).

In just a matter of days, the pet cam footage has generated over 400 comments on TikTok already.

One comment reads: “We appreciate the work of a trend setter.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “This is the reason why I’m scared to put mine up.”

Another person joked: “It’s the way they always run away like they’re scared of their own chaos.”

While one commenter added: “See…you even have proof that the tree fainted. Innocent Poor baby got so scared.”
