Cat Notices One Thing About Kitchen Drawer in 2023—Hasn’t Forgotten Since

A cat owner revealed why their feline has been checking one specific drawer in the kitchen every single night for the last three years, and internet users cannot cope with it.

In a viral TikTok video, shared on Sunday under the username @fourfluffyfriends4, the Bengal cat from Norway can be seen standing on his two hind legs as he opens one of the drawers in the kitchen, before jumping inside it for a thorough check.

“We used to have snacks in that drawer 3 years ago. He still has to check it every night.” the caption says. “Get a Bengal they said. It will be fun.”

Experts at Pet MD say that felines possess both short‑term and long‑term memory, and research shows their recall plays a major role in survival and behavior.

Studies indicate they can remember the location of food for at least 15 minutes and use spatial memory to track which areas they have already explored.

Short‑term memory helps them solve problems, while long‑term memory shapes reactions to people, places, and past experiences—positive or negative. Strong emotions, especially those tied to food or relationships, make memories more durable.

Cats can retain memories for many years, potentially throughout their lives, though aging reduces this ability. They also remember early kittenhood, recognizing their mother’s voice and recalling littermates through scent for up to two years.

Traumatic experiences may lead to fear or avoidance, but techniques such as desensitization and counterconditioning can help reshape these associations. Proper nutrition and veterinary care support healthy brain function as cats age.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received over 707,000 views and more than 109,000 likes on the platform.

One user, Jill, commented: “Surprise him one night with snacks in there it will make his night.”

PepperWitchPNW posted: “My cat lost a treat under the fridge 2 years ago and every night she sits and cries in front of the fridge still lamenting her lost treat.”

Matt wrote: “Every morning my kitchen looks like a poltergeist went through.”
