A black cat named Jinx in Florida has captured the attention of thousands online after a heartbreaking video revealed she was left to fend for herself when her owner moved away.

In the clip, posted on Instagram earlier in March by @camyscatland, the poster introduces the abandoned kitty who can be seen gently padding toward her for attention, before the woman feeds the young cat some much-appreciated kibble.

The poster explains the feline’s situation in a plea for help: “This is Jinx, and her owner moved away, abandoned her and left her outside to survive on her own. This cat was an indoor cat. She is super friendly and she definitely does not deserve to be living on the streets when all she has known her whole life is indoors. So I desperately need your help.”

The poster goes on to ask for support from anyone nearby who might be able to give the cat a safe place: “If you’re located in south Florida and you’re willing to adopt Jinx, or foster Jinx, please reach out to me. I really want this to be a happy ending for Jinx.

“I will get her fully vetted but I need to find a foster home for her. Or if someone is willing to commit to adopting her that would be even better. I would love to get her off these streets as soon as possible. Considering she has lived indoors her whole life I’m sure its been very difficult for her to navigate the outdoor life.”

The poster, Cameryn Clark, from Delray Beach, told Newsweek that, fortunately, there has already been progress in helping the abandoned pet. “She is now in a foster home and has applications lined up for meet and greets for potential adopters.”

The video documenting Jinx’s story quickly drew widespread attention. Since being posted, it has received over 53,300 views and almost 10,000 likes, as people across social media reacted to the indoor cat’s sudden shift to street life.

Many viewers expressed heartbreak over the situation and gratitude that someone stepped in to help her.

One user, Lt__foto, commented: “It breaks my heart that some pets are treated as disposable. It’s a shame that some people behave is such a way.”

Caffeinatedfangirl said: “I hope Jinx’s former human never knows another peaceful nights rest in this lifetime or the next. I have a black cat named Jinx too so this really has me shaking with rage. Please keep us updated on her and if there are other ways we can help support and get her off the streets.”
