The moment a dog mom realized her canine was her “soul dog” has gone viral—all because of what she did as a certified passenger princess.
The video shows Victoria (@viccttoorriia) driving home after just having adopted her pup. The camera captures the pooch howling along to “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. The clip has garnered over 1.7 million likes and a huge number of views on TikTok. “This was the moment I knew she was my soul dog,” the poster wrote as the text overlaying the footage.
“I had just gotten her, I went on a drive to blast music and she sat and sang the whole song with me. Still my girl,” Victoria captioned the video.
What Is a ‘Soul Dog’?
A blog by Sundays for Dogs says the term “soul dog” refers to people with an uncommonly deep emotional connection with their pup. These canines are described as once-in-a-lifetime companions who seem to understand their owner’s emotions better than most humans.
The blog adds that you know you have met your “soul dog” when you don’t want to be without them, when leaving them behind feels difficult, and when simply the thought of them brings you comfort or even tears.
Dogs in the Car: More Than Just a Backseat Companion
The American Kennel Club (AKC) says that many pups love car rides—but others can feel anxiety, motion sickness or stress around being in a moving vehicle.
The AKC recommends a gradual training approach: introduce the car slowly, begin with short drives, pair positive experiences (treats, praise) with the car ride, and ensure the dog is safely secured (crate or harness) for travel. They also emphasize that ride-throughs, open windows with heads out, or leaving a canine alone in a car can pose risks or cause fear.
In this case, the newly adopted pup not only settled into the passenger seat, but also joined in vocally—an uncommonly fluid reaction indicating a strong, intuitive bond.
TikTok Users Quick To React

“Omg [oh my God] my Australian shepherd sings with me too! You should hear our rendition of Defying Gravity,” shared Madilyn.
“This video made me cry because it reminded me of my soul dog,” shared another user.
“The way he looked mournfully out the window after the last ‘I have nothing!’’” posted a third.
