The Buffalo Bills fired their coach of nine seasons, Sean McDermott, on Jan. 19, following the team’s divisional round playoff loss to the Denver Broncos.

So, the Bills are in hiring mode, and they’ve been doing the interview rounds to find a McDermott replacement.

But, amid the coach drama, there’s a bit of bright light for the team. On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Buffalo Bills announced that quarterback Josh Allen is once again up for MVP honors. Allen, of course, won the award in 2025, so it would be two consecutive wins if he were to win it again.

The winner will be revealed at the annual “NFL Honors” on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.

During the 2025-26 regular season, Allen wrapped up his run with a 69.3 completion percentage on 319-of-460 attempts and a 102.2 passer rating. He also threw for 3,668 yards and 25 touchdowns, averaging eight yards per throw, according to NFL research.

Now, the announcement is drawing a strong reaction from fans. While most of them are happy for Allen, some are still voicing how much they want McDermott back.

“That’s cool bring back McDermott,” one said on social media. “Now get us our coach back,” another added.

“Salvage post,” another said with a laughing face emoji. “Hoping he never asks for a trade…. This team is being ran like the Chargers and countless others who never pay for much more than needed… Hence 0 Lombardi’s.”

“Imagine Allen winning it again,” one more said, in a hopeful post.

Allen joins Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Drake Maye of the New England Patriots, Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers and Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams as a finalist.

More high-profile nominees include first-year head coaches Liam Coen of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears and Mike Vrabel of the Patriots among the Coach of the Year finalists.

During the 2025-26 season, Allen became youngest and fastest player to eclipse 300 regular season touchdowns in Week 17. He also surpassed Cam Newton for most rushing touchdowns by an NFL quarterback in Week 13 and led the NFL in most career rushing touchdowns, including the postseason, after Week 9 performance.
