The Chicago Bulls are trading Ayo Dosunmu to the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The 26-year-old guard is just the latest domino to fall for Chicago, as the Bulls enter a rebuilding phase.

As for the Timberwolves, they are making win-now moves. Being playoff regulars in the Western Conference, building the right support system around Anthony Edwards remains a priority as the Timberwolves are working on making a championship run.

A Look at Ayo Dosunmu’s Contract

The Timberwolves aren’t getting the young veteran on a long-term deal. The next few months will be a good trial period to see how the veteran stacks up with his new team. The Timberwolves can decide whether it would be wise to commit long-term—or move on.

Dosunmu signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Bulls ahead of the 2023-2024 NBA season. In his first year, he made $6.4 million in salary. Last season, he earned $7.0 million, while seeing that reach $7.5 million for the 2025-2026 season.

At the end of the year, Dosunmu will hit the free agency market as an unrestricted player if the Timberwolves decide to move on. Since the Bulls didn’t strike a deal with him ahead of the season, it was clear that Dosunmu was bound to hit the open market in 2026, hence why the Bulls ended up including the veteran in the trade sweepstakes.

Dosunmu entered the league in 2021 as a second-round selection out of Illinois, where he was born and played his high school hoops. He spent the first four years of his career playing for his hometown Bulls, appearing in 279 games, picking up 154 starts.

Over the past two seasons, Dosunmu averaged 12 points per game. He’s made 50 percent of his shots from the field and drained 36 percent of his threes throughout his career.

Who Are the Timberwolves Giving Up?

In addition to Dosunmu, the Timberwolves are expected to add Julian Phillips, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The Bulls are slated to land Minnesota’s Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks.

The big question now is what’s next for Minnesota? They have been consistent in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Many reports have signaled that the Timberwolves have the Greek Freak’s attention, but the Milwaukee Bucks aren’t getting very far on talks. The Timberwolves remain a team to keep an eye on in that case, but don’t expect them to hold out, waiting for the former MVP’s availability to be made crystal clear by Milwaukee. Minnesota is making moves.
